With Mumbai Indians handing over a crushing defeat to Kolkata Knight Riders on Sunday night, Sunrisers Hyderabad, on the back of a better net run rate, have managed to scrape their way through to the playoffs of IPL 2019. With the thumping win, Mumbai has climbed to the top spot of the points table, thereby setting up a clash with Chennai Super Kings in Qualifier 1 in Chennai on Tuesday. Mumbai’s thumping victory on Sunday night also meant that Delhi Capitals, who have been in top form this season, were pushed down to the third place to face Sunrisers Hyderabad in the IPL Eliminator to be played in Vizag on 8 May.
With just a few days left before the teams take the field for the much-anticipated clash in Vizag, the city is expected to witness the players’ arrivals from Monday. The concerned officials have already decked up the ACA-VDCA stadium in the city to host the playoffs. And given the array of stars who are expected to dot the city in the coming few days, the frenzy among the fans has reached a new high.
The loser of the IPL Eliminator in Vizag will be knocked out of the tournament while the winner will go on to face the second team from Qualifier 1 in Qualifier 2, which is also scheduled to take place in Vizag on 10 May. While the likes of Shikhar Dhawan, Rishabh Pant, Kane Williamson, Rashid Khan, and Bhuvneshwar Kumar are among those who are likely to entertain the crowd on Tuesday, the cricketers from either Mumbai or Chennai will be the added attractions on Friday.
