S.R. Constructions Managing Director and TDP leader AIimineni Surendrababu and five of his friends had a narrow escape during the blasts in Sri Lanka on Sunday. Mr. Surendrababu had tried for a party ticket from Kalyandurg Assembly constituency in Anantapur district. Reportedly, he had gone to Sri Lanka on a holiday trip along with five of his friends.
When the blasts occurred, Mr. Surendrababu ran out of the hotel from the emergency exit. The other members too rushed out and saved themselves. It took them some time to meet and ensure their welfare. Mr. Surendrababu sustained an injury to his nose and two of his friends suffered minor injuries while they were having breakfast at the hotel. The others escaped without any injuries.
Anantapur District Collector G. Veerapandian told The Hindu that as per the information received from the manager of Mr. Surendrababu, he, along with the rest of his team, was doing fine. Similar information was received from the superintendent of police GVG Ashok Kumar who stated that all six members of the team were safe but could not be contacted for further details.
Reportedly, at least 290 people have been killed and 500 injured in the bomb blasts targeting churches and hotels in Sri Lanka on 21 April. There were blasts at eight sites including three hotels and three churches. The Sri Lankan government had imposed a curfew with immediate effect. Leaders from all over the world including Narendra Modi, Imran Khan, Theresa May, Donald Tusk, Jean-Claude Juncker and Vladimir Putin condemned the appalling attacks and expressed their sympathies. TDP Chief Chandrababu Naidu and YSRCP honcho YS Jagan Mohan Reddy too expressed grief over the inhumane blasts in Sri Lanka.
