SSC examinations cancelled in AP for the academic year 2020-2021

The SSC Examinations 2020-2021 have been cancelled due to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic in AP. The Andhra Pradesh State Government passed a Government Order (GO) on Monday in this regard. This has been executed as a one-time measure in relaxation of the usual procedure of conducting the annual exams. Students who registered for SSC Public Examinations, back in March 2020, and were issued hall tickets have been passed without any grade points.

A High Power Committee had been constituted for changing the procedure of how the SSC Public Examinations are announced in AP, prior to the SSC Public Examinations being cancelled 2021. After careful examination of the report submitted, the State Government has approved the recommendations of the High Power Committee regarding the evolution of the formula for finalisation, and declaring the results, of the SSC Public Examinations 2020-2021. This was said to be for the benefit of the student community in view of the pandemic situation prevailing in the State.

As per the GO, all the students who were issued pass certificates in the year 2020 shall be issued grades and grade points. The grades shall be awarded on the performance of the students in the three Formative Assessments, for 50 marks each, and one Summative Assessment Examination. These were conducted internally for the students of the academic year 2019-20, with a higher weightage for Government Institutions for parity with 2020-21 and correction of skewed outcomes.

Out of the total score of 100 marks, the SA-1 marks secured by the students shall carry a weightage of 50 percent marks and for the remaining 50 marks, the sum of marks secured by the students in the 3 FAs shall carry a weightage of 50 percent marks. The same procedure shall be followed for all the subjects and the final marks of all the subjects shall be calculated accordingly. The final marks of SA-1 and the sum of three Formative Assessments (FA-1, FA-2 and FA-3) shall be calculated by using the above method and the marks secured by the student shall be added to obtain the final score for 100 marks.

For vocational courses, the result shall be declared based on the grades secured by the respective students in the regular SSC course. As 20 internal marks are available, the marks scored by the student shall be multiplied by 5 to arrive at marks out of 100.

To minimize objectivity, the High Power Committee has recommended that, out of the 50 marks of each Formative Assessment, 70 percent weightage be accorded to the 20 marks of slip tests and the remaining 30 percent weightage to the other three components of Formative Assessments.

For the students who have appeared but marks have not been uploaded for various reasons, a minimum pass grade shall be awarded.

Further, for the students who appeared for SSC exams that were conducted in 2017, 2018 and 2019 and failed to clear some of the subjects. (once failed candidates), the internal marks of the students that are available against their first performance shall be taken into consideration.

The news comes at a time when the State Government has decided to open schools in the state from 16 August.
