The Review
Movie: Sultan
Language: Hindi
Genre: Sports – Drama
Director: Ali Abbas Zafar
Cast: Salman Khan, Anushka Sharma, Randeep Hooda
Salman Khan’s expectable Eid release is here, and it’s nothing less than what one has come to expect from a masala, sallu bhai starrer. Love, action, drama, ambition – the sports movie has it all.
What it is about:
Aarfa (Anushka Sharma) is a state champion wrestler, who is determined to make her mark in a world where women are overlooked. Sultan Ali Khan (Salman Khan) is a 40 year old loafer who once wrestled only in the hope of being worthy enough of the ambitious Aarfa.
Why you should watch it:
Akash Oberai is an entrepreneur trying to keep afloat his mixed martial arts championships in India. He’s recommended the perfect mud wrestler for the game – Sultan. The middle-aged wrestler on the other hand is reluctant to go back into the ring. Anushka and Salman are a delight to watch on-screen despite every Bollywood and sports film trope being employed by the film. Randeep Hooda as Sultan’s brooding instructor Amit Sadh does not disappoint. The Haryanvi accented dialogues are bang on and the film rustic.
What’s Hot:
– Salman’s acting
– Anushka’s characterisation
– Sultan’s best friend played by Anant Sharma
– Vishal & Shekar’s music
What’s Not:
– Songs that keep interrupting the story
– Long run time
