The Swachh Bharat Survekshan survey will begin tomorrow and Vizag is gearing up for it. The city achieved fifth rank in all of India in the 2015 survey. The survey for this year will be conducted from January 7 – 9.
Visakhapatnam previously received three awards from the central government for cleanliness on October 2. Nellore and Guntur also received certificated with our city and were declared open-defecation free. The Swachh Survekshan team will be here to conduct the survey. Ahead of the survey, the Municipal Commissioner M Hari Narayanan stated that 55 community toilets were modernised and retrofitted.
The other measures the city has implemented are organic waste convertors in Rythu Bazaars, collection of kitchen waste in separate containers in model colonies, and placing dustbins and dumpsters in commercial areas, RTC complex and railway station. Several steps have also been taken for the re-mediation of the Kapuluppada dump yard.
The Swacch Survekshan team will be visiting the dump yard and posting pictures of it online. Documentation of continuous monitoring, reviews and field visits can be expected. The various guidelines and programmes as indicated in the Swachh Bharat Mission have been taken up and are implemented.
The GVMC hopes to achieve top rank this year too. Results can be seen only through people’s participation and dedication of staff and officials now.
