The Swachh Survekshan team will be marking its presence in Visakhapatnam from Thursday. A four-member team is likely to tour any part of the city to conduct its survey for the Swachh Survekshan rankings for the year 2019.
Reportedly, a team had earlier paid a secret visit to Visakhapatnam to elicit public opinions on the state of cleanliness and hygiene in the city.
With the past few days witnessing the festive rush, the authorities ensured that the sanitary personnel worked in planned shifts to maintain the city’s hygiene.
During its current visit, the Swachh Survekshan team is likely to inspect the ODF (Open Defecation Free) points and public toilets in the city. Following this, another team is expected to evaluate the overall hygienic state of the city.
It may be recalled that Visakhapatnam’s position in the rankings slipped from 3rd place in 2017 to 7th place in Swachh Survekshan 2018. Last year, the cities of Indore, Bhopal and Chandigarh had emerged as the top three cleanest cities in India.
Flagged off on 4 January this year, Swachh Survekshan 2019 is being carried out across India. The survey, which will last until month end, is being carried out in 4300 cities across the country. While the last year’s survey allocated a total of 4000 marks as the cumulative score, the latest survey will allocate 5000 marks for the same.
