After the previous controversy which drew the ire of the cinema-goers, the Tamil remake of Arjun Reddy seems to sail on new waters now. The film, which is supposed to mark the debut of actor Vikram’s son, Dhruv, has now been rechristened as Adithya Varma. The filmmakers, E4 Entertainment, took to Twitter to announce the news, releasing the film’s first look poster.

Adithya Varma will be directed by debutant Gireesaaya, who had assisted director Sandeep Reddy Vanga previously. The new version will also feature Banita Sandhu as the female lead and Priya Anand in another crucial role.
The remake was flagged off last year and was titled Varmaa. Directed by National Award winning director Bala, the film was slated to hit the screens on 14 February. However, unhappy with the final output of Varmaa, the filmmakers had decided to drop the film, raking up controversy on social media.
“We at E4 Entertainment are not happy with the final version handed over to us and due to various creative and other differences, we have decided not to release this version. Instead, we will start afresh, and shoot a new Tamil version of “Arjun Reddy” with Dhruv as the main lead by staying true to the soul and intention of the original,” E4 had said earlier in a note.
Responding on the same, Bala had said, “In order to safeguard creative freedom, it was my own decision to relieve myself from the project. Considering Dhruv Vikram’s future, I would like to end this here.”
It may be noted that Arjun Reddy is also being remade in Hindi. Titled Kabir Singh and starring Shahid Kapoor and Kiara Advani in the lead roles, the remake is being helmed by Sandeep Reddy Vanga.
