Filmmakers, on the other hand, have always strived to achieve something similar to this by remaking compelling stories into a language of their choice. Here, we present you 5 such favourite movies of all of us that started their journey from Kollywood and travelled to Bollywood, via Tollywood.
#1 Kushi(2001)
Kushi is a Tamil movie directed by S.J Surya, starring Vijay and Jyothika. The Tamil version was released in 2000 and was later remade into Telugu (2001 starring Pawan Kalyan and Bhoomika) and Hindi (2003 starring Fardeen Khan and Kareena Kapoor).
#2 Ye Maaya Chesave(2010)
‘Vinnaithaandi Varuvaaya’, starring Simbu and Trisha in the leads, was shot in Telugu as ‘Ye Maya Chesaave’ starring Naga Chaitanya and Samantha. After striking a chord with the audiences in the Southern States, director Gautham Menon took the story to Bollywood to make ‘Ek Deewana Tha’ casting Prateik Babbar and Amy Jackson.
#3 Tagore(2002)
Ramana directed by AR Murgudoss in 2002 starring Vijaykanth, Simran, and Ashima Bhalla. Due to the amazing response and accolades it garnered, this movie was remade into Telugu in 2003 starring Chiranjeevi. Several years later, the movie traveled to Mumbai where it was remade into Bollywood by director Krish. ‘Gaabar is back’ had Akshay Kumar, Shruti Hassan, and Kareena Kapoor playing the lead roles.
#4 Seshu(2002)
Sethu is a 1999 Indian romantic drama film written and directed by Bala. The film stars Vikram and Abitha Gujalambal in the lead roles with Sivakumar and Sriman donning other pivotal roles. ‘Sethu’ was later remade into Telugu and Hindi as ‘Seshu’ and ‘Tere Naam’ respectively.
#5 Gharshana(2004)
Due to its blockbuster success in Kollywood, the movie ‘Kaakha Kaakha'(2003), directed by Gautham Menon and starring Suriya and Jyothika in the lead roles was, remade into Telugu as ‘Gharshana’ starring Venkatesh Daggubatti and Asin. Later it was remade into Hindi as ‘Force’ in 2011 under the directorship of Nishikanth Kamath, starring John Abraham, Genelia D’Souza.
