An old video of TDP MP M Muralimohan Rao saying the day is not far when South India would declare itself as a separate country, went viral on social media on Thursday. The comments, which were made by the MP at a meeting held in Rajahmundry last month, have triggered a row with netizens coming down heavily on the veteran actor turned politician for making such “unacceptable” comments. The video resurfaced online after two ministers from TDP quit the Modi cabinet.
“Don’t force the South Indian states to declare freedom as a separate country. This is a very serious issue. If South India is neglected in the same way, all the 5 states here will have to take some stern decisions,” Muralimohan is seen saying in the video.
“We are contributing more to the Central pool in the form of taxes than any other state barring Maharashtra. Then why the Union Government is treating us in a step-motherly manner. We are being treated in an inhuman way in all the aspects. If we speak in Telugu they ill-treat and denigrate us. Andhra Pradesh was bifurcated from Telangana in an unethical manner and it is the responsibility of the Centre to undo the injustice to AP….N T Rama Rao, when he was chief minister, was fed up with the interference of the Centre in the affairs of the State and made a case for AP separating from rest of the country. Now, if the mindset of the Union Government does not change, all southern states might have to come together to form a separate entity,” the TDP MP was quoted as saying.
