In yet another noteworthy inclusion to the YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) ahead of the elections in Andhra Pradesh, veteran actor and comedian Ali officially met YS Jaganmohan Reddy on Monday to join the political party. The move comes just a day after the Election Commission announced the election schedule for the Assembly and Lok Sabha polls.
YSRCP Chief YS Jagan welcomed Ali into the party at the former’s residence in Hyderabad on Monday. Speaking to the reporters, the actor said that he will work and campaign for the party in the upcoming elections. Stating that the people of Andhra Pradesh wanted Jaganmohan Reddy as the Chief Minister of the state, Ali said that he would do his bit in helping the party win. He further informed that he is willing to contest from either Vijayawada or Rajahmundry if the party gives him a ticket.
Earlier, there were reports that the actor might join other regional parties in the state. However, Ali stated that he wasn’t assured of his political future by those parties and hence, decided to join hands with YS Jaganmohan Reddy.
Devineni Chandrasheker too joined YSRCP in the presence of Myalavaram MLA candidate, Vasanta Krishna Prasad and vowed to work towards making the party win the upcoming elections. On 7 March, veteran Telugu actress and former MLA Jayasudha quit the Telugu Desam Party to don the YSRCP hat.
While Lok Sabha polls in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana will take place on 11 April, the Assembly polls in Andhra Pradesh are slated to be held on 11 April.
