The state government now wants school children to take a thanksgiving pledge every day at school. The pledge will be in acknowledgement and a sign of gratefulness for everything the ‘almighty’, family, friends, society, nature and even the state government has provided you with. Basically just like how people in the US celebrate Thanksgiving, except for the ‘thanking the state government’ part.
HRD Minister Ganta Srinivasa Rao stated that the state government will soon be imposing/introducing the pledge at all private and government schools across the state. The Minister said the same when he launched the Visakha Utsav website yesterday and cut a cake along with Collector Pravin Kumar to mark the New Year.
The idea was kick-started when a team of farmers presented the CM Chandrababu Naidu with stuffed rice from the first produce paddy as they had benefitted from the Pattiseema Lift Irrigation Project. That paved way for discussion in the State Cabinet meeting on reciprocation of love and affection by being thankful.
They decided the idea would take root when it was implemented from the school stage itself. The motto behind the pledge is to promote ‘ethical’ values in children. Reportedly, after the Pongal holidays, the state government will direct school managements to enforce the pledge every day.
