Tie and Dye workshop to be held in Visakhapatnam

Craft Council of Andhra Pradesh in collaboration with The Craft Tree is conducting a two-day Tie and Dye workshop in Visakhapatnam!

Who is this for?

Whether you’re a craft enthusiast, hobbyist, beginning entrepreneur or a business owner, this workshop can teach you to transform regular clothes to brightly coloured ones with distinctive patterns by using variety of tying methods with tie & dye.

What can one look forward to at the Workshop?

The expert trainer will introduce you to three distinct methods of Leheriya, Clamp dyeing and Shibori.

Leheriya is a simple style of tie and dye from the state of Rajasthan, India. Literally translating to mean wave-like, it symbolises the unique and rich costumes of Rajasthan.

Shibori is a Japanese manual resist dyeing technique, which produces interesting patterns on the fabric.

Clamp dyeing is a technique which involves making folds in the fabric and then using a carved wood shape as a resist. This wood resist needs to be placed on both sides of the folded cloth and then is held together tightly with a clamp.

These different techniques can be used independently or in collaboration with one another to achieve desired results, and the camp will teach you how. Moreover, each of the techniques lead to many options for distinctive options as well.

Will one learn about raw materials as well?

Yes! The workshop not only provides the different types of dyes, but also the required material for that specific method. (If you want to make something else of your own creation, you can buy a separate material at an additional cost.)

What else can one expect?

In addition to the fun workshop, there will be few stalls selling exquisite clothes and accessories handcrafted by several artisans across the region, including a tie and dye stall which has many unique varieties of sarees, stoles and dupattas.
