Timpany School and its proud legacy since 1931 in Vizag

A landmark institution that nurtured a sizeable percentage of Vizag’s students, Timpany School has long been an icon of good contemporary education. Timpany School is known for its discipline and cosmopolitan atmosphere, the school’s name has long surpassed the boundaries of Vizag city.

School’s Rich Heritage

When travelling even a few kilometres was considered a difficult and daunting task, a passionate educationist has crossed literally almost all the oceans and continents from the other side of the globe to this part of India to illuminate and thus remove the darkness of ignorance in children, and thereby from society, with the torch of teaching. He is Reverend AE Timpany. He, in the year 1931, in the capacity of the head of the Canadian Baptist Mission (CBM), an evangelical society, established a school in Kakinada, which was subsequently shifted to Vizag during the later part of the Second World War. Timpany School continued its presence since then in various buildings in different areas and grew along with the city of Vizag to become one of its major landmarks.

It started as ‘The Anglo-Indian Protestant Middle School’ in a small room in St. John Church parish near the old post-office sometime in the 1940s with just ten students. Since then, it grew to become a grand institution with three huge buildings and over 7000 students studying in them now. The untiring efforts of Ms. Mercy Jeya Raja Rao, who, in the capacities of Teacher, Principal and Administrator, in nurturing this school since the time she joined it in 1954 until the day she bade adieu in 2002, entered into many a folklore in this part of the land. The school was renamed in memory of its illustrious founder Reverend AE Timpany in 1961 when its governing body, CBM, constructed its first big building in the Asilmetta area as demand grew by, thanks to the quality education that it was spreading. Subsequently, another two buildings were added, one in the same Asilmetta area, and another in the suburb, Gajuwaka. The latter, obviously, for catering to the educational needs of the children of the industrial employees.

What makes it special?

The school offers an abundant choice for students, right from LKG to 12th standard in ICSE and ISC streams. Group-learning and Integrated-learning are some of the innovative methods employed by this school to make young minds learn with greater focus and zeal.

Many of its alumni have made it very big in the areas of Arts, Civil Service, Judiciary, Military Service, Management, and Entrepreneurship. Ramana Gogula, Captain Samuel Manohar, Sasi Kiran, Keshav Murugesh are some of the persons who reached great heights.
