Remake movies have always been a popular trend in the film industry. Tollywood films that have done well at the box office over the past years have garnered the attention of the movie-makers from other industries. Naga Chaitanya’s ‘100% Love’ which released in 2011 is being remade in Tamil with the name ‘100% Kadal’. Reportedly, ‘Arjun Reddy’ fame Shalini Pandey will be playing the female lead in this version.
Sukumar’s ‘Kumari 21F’, which released in 2015, was a small-budget film that made huge margins of profit. Reportedly, Kannada film-makers have bagged the rights of remaking this movie with Hebah Patel playing the lead role once again.
Another small budget film that created a rage at the box office was ‘Pelli Choopulu’ which released in 2016. This new age “Rom-Com” is being remade into Tamil by ace director Gautham Menon.
The sensation created by ‘Arjun Reddy’ is still fresh in the minds of many. This cult movie too is traveling to other states. While Chiyaan Vikram’s son, Dhruv, will be playing the lead in its Tamil version, the Hindi version will have Shahid Kapoor donning the character of Arjun Reddy.
On the other hand, Tollywood too is geared up to remake some movies from other languages. Bollywood’s ‘Queen’, which even won a national award, will soon be made available for the Telugu audience. The film-makers have pinned Tamannaah to play the movie’s lead. As a matter of fact, even Tamil, Kannada, and Malayalam film industries are making this story available to their respective audiences.
If rumours are to be believed, a leading producer from Tollywood is trying to bag the rights for the Telugu remake of Salman Khan’s ‘Sultan’.
Kollywood’s recent sensation, ‘Vikram Vedha’, which has taken the film fraternities by storm might also be soon remade in Tollywood.
Suriya’s ‘Gang’ which will be releasing during this year’s Pongal festival is also a remake of Akshay Kumar’s ‘Special 26’.
