Vaccination remains the key to defeating Covid-19 and banishing it from Visakhapatnam. In this regard, the district administration has been continuously asking citizens to come forward and take the jab. The results of that are reflecting in the fact that all in the 45-60 age group have been fully vaccinated. And as far as the 18-45 age group is concerned, nearly 60 percent of these people have been vaccinated with the second dose.
Despite Visakhapatnam still reporting Covid-19 cases, at around a 1 to 2 percent positivity rate, relief can be found in the fact that no new variant of the virus has popped up in the district as yet. However, according to the Principal of Andhra Medical College, Dr. PV Sudhakar, people still need to be vigilant and get themselves vaccinated. “Vaccination is the way to rid Visakhapatnam of Covid-19. However, people in the 18-45 age group should take the initiative and get themselves vaccinated. This is not the time for complacency. Quite a few people are beginning to believe that it’s enough to get the first dose of the vaccine which isn’t at all the case.”
Dr. Sudhakar also stated that people below the age of 18 years old might soon be able to get vaccinated, as the Central Government is actively considering it.
As of Thursday, 50,96,862 people have been vaccinated in Visakhapatnam District. Females continue to lead the charts, with more than 26,20,000 women having been vaccinated. A majority of the people, around 43,41,000 have gone with Covishield.
While Covishield and Covaxin are the only vaccines available in Visakhapatnam presently, other vaccines like the Zydus Cadila and Johnson & Johnson vaccines are expected to enter the market soon. The district administration has also deployed three mobile vaccination vehicles to provide vaccination facilities in Visakhapatnam Agency.
On Wednesday, Visakhapatnam reported 26 Covid-19 cases, compared to 230 cases all over the state.
