The vertical housing concept will soon be employed in Visakhapatnam so as to provide housing for employees at private firms. A team of officials from the city will soon be visiting Kolkata to study the concept and replicate it here.
The Collector, Pravin Kumar, reportedly said that they will be visiting Kolkata in the first week of February to study the concept in Kolkata where it has proven successful results. The government has so far been providing houses for the under privileged and the unorganised sector under schemes like JNNURM and NTR housing.
The government will now be building vertical housing for employees in private companies and selling them for affordable prices, in association with private builders. In the first phase, they will be developing 1 lakh houses, 65,000 of which will be spread over 710 acres at Achyutapuram near Rajahmundry and 35,000 of which will be spread over 400 acres at Anandapuram near Srikakulam.
Due to the massiveness of the project, the government wants to take up the concept of vertical housing which is very popular in Kolkata. Upon the instructions of Chief Secretary SP Tucker, they are reportedly preparing to study the housing structures where huge houses are built up in limited space. They want to start the project in February this year.
Chairman of the Vizag Chapter of Confederation of Real Estate Developer’s Association of India (CREDAI), K Ramakrishna Rao said that the vertical housing concept in Kolkata is a huge success with the cost of social transport and the houses being affordable. When the land value is high, these structures prove to be a better option. In Kolkata, the structures range anywhere between 8-20 floors.
