In the latest rankings for the cleanest railway stations in the country, Visakhapatnam Railway Station failed to retain the top rank this year.
No 1 last year
Last year, in the list of A1 category railway stations in the country, the cities railway station stood in the top rank and became the talk of the nation. Now, in the latest results from the railway ministry, the city’s station dropped down to the 10th rank and the complete details are yet to be known.
The station had to face cleanliness problems due to construction works of a foot overbridge (FOB). Advanced level of accommodations are already being provided in the railway station. The installation of new escalators, lifts and water cleaners were just not enough to secure the top rank.
While Jodhpur and Marwar railway stations in Rajasthan secured the first spot, Tirupati bagged the third place.
Visakhapatnam railway station has come a long way from where it once was. With renovations done, escalators put in, a 24-hour food court that boasts of some of the best eateries, a luxury lounge that gives the waiting rooms in airports a run for their money, free WiFi, the launch of Vistadome trains for Araku and more, the railway station has made numerous strides in the last two years alone.
