With the arrival of new year, Vizag is gearing up to shape the annual festival of the city “Visakha Utsav”, a celebration of art and culture, in January.
The tourism department of Andhra Pradesh organises it every year with great fervour and gaiety. The aim of the festival is to promote the local cuisine and the native art and craft of the city.
Unlike previous editions, this year the district administration is planning to hold the festival in limited number of venues. The three day Utsav is supposed to be held before the Partnership Summit, either from January 7 or 20. If everything goes right, the Utsav will be held in January 7 in two or three venues. The previous Utsav were held at places such as Shilparamam, R K Beach, Vuda Park and Kailasagiri. Next year onwards it will be held in a single venue, i.e the R K Beach stretch.
Apart from cultural and traditional programmes, the sports events are also one of the attractions for the crowd at this most awaited festival of Vizag.
Update: 29.12.2016
The dates of the Visakha Utsav have been shifted to January 28-30 instead of the previously reported January 7-9 so as not to coincide with the CII Partnership Summit – 2017. One of the reasons for rescheduling happens to be the preoccupation with Janmabhoomi programme.
The CM will inaugurate the Utsav while here for the Partnership Summit. The highlight of this year will be events like folk dances, flower shows and creation of replicas of famous temples. The carnival will take place in the 2.5 KM stretch between VUDA Park and RK Beach.
Another reason for the delay is to enable the delegates participating in the CII Partnership Summit to be a part of the revelry of the Utsav. There will be an exclusive logo and website created for the Utsav, onto which the expenditure incurred for the carnival will be uploaded onto for transparency.
