Visakhapatnam International Airport is expecting a massive expansion of six more parking bays by the month of July next year. This expansion is being done in order to facilitate night parking of the aircrafts and also to have an increased number of early morning flights. Presently, there can be six aircrafts accommodated at the same time, but this expansion would allow up to a dozen of aircrafts of airlines especially domestic carriers. The authorities have also claimed that the decision has been taken in consideration of the future needs of the airport which had a substantial increase in the international passengers. As there will an increasing connectivity of flights from Visakhapatnam to 14 domestic destinations, an increased passenger movement is expected due to which there will be an expansion of the airport terminals and the check-in areas so that the peak hour movements will be catered to. Since the proposed Greenfield International Airport at Bhogapuram area in Vizianagaram is most likely to take another five years, the Union Government is spending Rs 28 crores for this expansion. According to the Airport Authorities , 30-40 percent of the work has already been completed.
