Vizag Airport
In what can be called saddening news, the ranking of the Visakhapatnam Airport instead of improving has taken a nose dive and reached last place. A shocker if one considers the slew of developments that have taken place in the region and the rankings that Visakhapatnam has secured over time. 17 airports which includes Lucknow, Srinagar, Pune, Trivandrum, Indore, Bhubaneswar, Kolkata, Mangalore, Chennai, Goa, Patna, Jaipur, Guwahati, Ahmedabad, Calicut, Coimbatore and Visakhapatnam have been surveyed every quarter. These rankings have been released after the third quarter report by Airport Service Survey.
Airport Service Survey conducts the survey on behalf of Airports Authority of India. For Vizag, the results have dipped after the first 2 quarters. Out of 5 points, 4.04 was for January to March, 4.17 was from April to June and for August to October it was 3.97. The global visibility instead of upping the scores is witnessing a downward trend. This even comes after factors such as cleanliness rating of the airport and washrooms gets third rank. This has seen a downward spiral too. Other factors among the 33 parameters are parking facilities, restaurants and eating facilities, availability of baggage cart and trolleys, waiting time in check in queues, helpfulness of check in staff etc which are reportedly not satisfactory.
Vizag will no doubt be sorry to hear this and we hope that with the improvement in Visakhapatnam as a Smart City and global It hub, the Airport improves too.
