The people of Visakhapatnam might soon be in for a new experience. The linking up of 600 APSRTC buses by GPS to the Command and Control Centre will finish in a month. With this, APSRTC is planning to streamline its operations by placing LED display boards of bus timings at some of the major locations in the city.
This LED display boards project is an initiative under the Smart City Project and the work is a key component of the Command and Control Centre. The project has been taken up with an idea of equipping 100 buses with the GPS tracking system and setting up LED display boards at 50 selected bus stands to display the bus timings.
Some of the major locations that are integrated with the buses are Kurmannapalem, Maddilapalem, Gajuwaka, Gnanapuram, NAD junction, and Pendurti bus stops.
While speaking to The Hindu, Municipal Commissioner, Mr. Hari Narayanan revealed that the 100 buses that have been equipped with the GPS tracking system form about a very little portion of the total number of buses that run in the city. The information about the bus timings will come on display only when they are plying in that particular route, he stated.
According to Municipal Commissioner, the trail run of 600 buses for the integration of information has already begun and the Command and Control Centre has started to collect the data. He further informed that this integration process will complete in a month and the timings display will soon be in use.
