As reported earlier, the officials have been mooting the Beach Road in Visakhapatnam one-way to reduce the traffic congestion and parking woes. The police had also elicited public opinion on the same and now, the rule would soon be implemented on weekends and public holidays.
The police would be imposing the restriction from 4 p.m to 10 p.m from September 1st on the road stretching from the NTR statue to The Park hotel, on the side that shares its boundary with the beach. The officials had asked the public to share its opinion by writing to the authorities at Whatsapp number 9493336633.
The idea, which was mooted by the Visakhapatnam‘s new Commissioner of Police, Mahesh Chandra Laddha, aims at converting the road abutting the beach into a parking area. The plan was proposed keeping in mind the heavy traffic congestion experienced on the beach road during holidays. The move to make Vizag beach road one-way, the police feel, would help in facilitating a smoother flow of traffic and make life easier for tourists as well.
As informed by ADCP (Traffic) M. Ramesh Kumar, the officials have received 45 suggestions and opinions on the proposal. While 28 of the opinions welcomed the move, the remaining opposed it. It has also been informed that of the 332 residents on the beach road, from whom opinions were collected, 220 individuals stood in its favour.
