In a major step in the progress of the much-awaited Bhogapuram Airport near Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu laid its foundation stone on Thursday.
The airport will be developed on 2,703 acres under the PPP (Public-Private Partnership) mode and will be integrated with Aerocity, a Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) facility, and an Aviation Academy. The current Visakhapatnam airport belongs to the Indian Navy.
Speaking at the event, CM Naidu said that the new Bhogapuram Airport, by catering to the needs of the north-coastal districts, would help in boosting the economic development in the districts of Visakhapatnam and Vizianagaram. The Chief Minister also pointed out that air-connectivity plays a key role in the growth of the IT and tourism sectors of a region.
It may be noted that earlier this week, Minister for Civil Aviation Suresh Prabhu, laid the foundation stone for the linear expansion of Visakhapatnam airport terminal. The extension of Visakhapatnam airport terminal, which has been taken up at a cost of Rs 60 crores, will increase the area from 19,800 square meters to 29,050 square meters.
During his visit to the city on Thursday, Chandrababu Naidu also laid the foundation for the Adani Data Park Centre, which is deemed to come up at an estimated cost of Rs 70,000 crores.
