After a painstaking probe for three months by thirty-three policemen, a man allegedly involved in 38 burglaries has finally been arrested.
The accused has been identified as Dunna Krishna, a 47 years old native of Meliaputti Mandal in Srikakulam District. The Visakhapatnam city police have recovered stolen property worth Rs 40 lakh from his possession. This includes Rs 1.88 lakh in cash, 1,135 grams of gold, 5.17 kg of silver, a TV, two premium watches, and a two-wheeler. Police have also taken six others into custody for helping Krishna commit the crimes and dispose of the stolen property.
Of the 38 burglaries, 25 were committed under MVP Police Station (PS) limits alone, while 6 were committed under Dwaraka PS limits, 2 under IV Town limits, and 1 each under III Town PS and Airport PS limits. Apart from Visakhapatnam, Krishna had also reportedly committed burglaries in Vizianagaram, Srikakulam, and Rajamahendravaram.
Already been convicted in over 100 cases and sent to the Rajahmundry Central Jail, Krishna took to crime again after being let out in 2017 at the completion of his sentence.
“Krishna can climb a four-storeyed building without a rope and can open windows with a coin,” said former Dwaraka PS Inspector Ch Shanmukha Rao.
According to the police, catching Krishna was hard. Three teams- a Technical, a Field-level, and a Catching team- worked together to arrest him. Led by Police Commissioner Mahesh Chandra Laddha, the teams took up different tasks. While the Technical team kept tabs on Krishna via social media, the Field-level team gathered information. At the same time, the Catching team shuttled between Tirupati, Kolkata, Vizianagaram, and Visakhapatnam to arrest him.
