In a shocking news, it has been reported that a cab driver allegedly attempted to sexually assault a woman in Visakhapatnam on Saturday evening. As per a report in Telangana Today, the woman works in a Hyderabad-based company in Visakhapatnam Special Economic Zone (VSEZ). It has been reported that the woman, after leaving the office at 6.30 pm, took the cab that usually leaves her home. The woman complained to the police that on the way, the cab driver took her to a lonely place and allegedly tried to rape her. The police are investigating the case to gain further insights.
How safe are cabs for women?
While the details of the case are yet to be known to a larger extent, the debate of how safe are these taxis for women has always existed.
Many women, especially those living in the metros, prefer to take a cab for their commutation purposes. Unfortunately, some incidents see the women encountering utterly bitter and horrifying experiences. A few cab drivers resort to shameful acts and tend to misbehave with the female customers.
A few months ago, a woman in Hyderabad claimed that her cab driver masturbated while she was in the car. Many passengers have been victims of such gross occurrences in the past and vented out their anger.
While the cab service companies and police need to take stringent actions against such drivers, the customers too must take certain precautionary measures to be ready if the need arises.
