Visakhapatnam continues to shiver in cold wave as the temperatures in the city have been stooping to new lows in the past few days.
While the past week witnessed the temperature drop to as low as 15.2 degrees centigrade, the recent reports have claimed that the temperature on Monday (1 January) night was recorded at 12 degrees Celsius.
Recorded at the city’s airport, the temperature on Monday night is being considered as the lowest temperature recorded in Visakhapatnam in the past ten years.
With the rise in the severity of the winds blowing in from the Northern regions, the mercury has been hitting rock bottom off-late. In addition to the drop in temperature during the nights, the days too, have been witnessing chilly weathers. Similar conditions are expected to prevail in Visakhapatnam for the coming few days.
On the other hand, Hyderabad too, has been recording extremely low temperatures. As reported by The New Indian Express, the capital city of Telangana recorded a temperature of 6.6 degrees Celsius at the automatic weather station at Telangana State Development Planning Society (
On Tuesday, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a 2-day orange alert for Telangana and a three-day yellow alert for Andhra Pradesh. The IMD has predicted a three-day cold wave for a few districts along the coast in Andhra Pradesh. Visakhapatnam is among the other districts where temperatures are expected to drop below 10 degrees Celsius in the coming days. Other districts in Andhra Pradesh, where the warning has been issued, include Srikakulam, Vizianagaram, Visakhapatnam, East Godavari, and West Godavari.
