In a virtual meeting organised on Friday, Visakhapatnam District Collector, Dr. A Mallikarjuna IAS, has reiterated the importance of using the Disha SOS app. He asked all the officials present in the meeting to ensure that every household in the district installs the Disha SOS app on their phones.
During the meeting, the Visakhapatnam Collector instructed all ward and village volunteers in the district to conduct door-to-door surveys to ensure that all households have installed this app. He announced that the third Friday and Saturday of every month will be set aside for this survey.
The Collector revealed in the meeting that more than 70 lakh people have downloaded the Disha SOS app in the state, with the target being 1 crore.
Superintendent of Police, Visakhapatnam (Rural), Boddepalli Krishna Rao IPS, who took part in this meeting, talked about the need to intensify awareness drives so that everyone understands the app’s uses.
Additionally, issues like ganja cultivation in the agency areas were also discussed during the meeting which was attended by officials from the police, forest and excise departments.
All in all, the district has been reporting a high number of crimes against women in recent times, including the death of a 14-year-old girl that occurred on Tuesday night in Aganampudi. While the district police have been swift in solving these cases and Disha police teams have been vigilant in the city, these cases are still being reported. Though the district authorities have been pushing for the implementation of the Disha Act, its effectiveness has been questioned by members of various opposition parties.
