In what might help in identifying and training young cricketing talents, Visakhapatnam District Cricket Association (VDCA) will soon initiate a training programme. Reportedly, the VDCA has proposed to launch an academy to hone the cricketing skills of boys aged from 8 years to 10 years.
The Association will conduct selections at the ACA-VDCA ‘B’ ground on 18 and 19 May in this regard. The selected ones will be enrolled in the academy and trained for one year. Apart from focussing on fitness and the skill-set, the academy will also provide the boys with the required cricket kits during the training period. Visakhapatnam District Cricket Association secretary K Parthasarathi stated that efforts will be made to groom the young talents into world class cricketers. He further informed that boys who are born between 1 September 2009 and 1 September 2011, will be considered for the academy.
Those interested may register their names, before 5 May, at the VDCA office at Municipal Stadium in Visakhapatnam from 5:30 pm to 7:30 pm. Names can also be registered at VDCA stadium at Madhurawada from 10:30 am to 12:30 pm. It is to be noted that birth certificates need to be carried along for the registration process.
