Road Transport Authority (RTA) has come up with a new scheme related to the driving license in Visakhapatnam. With just a one-time password (OTP), any work associated with the driving license can be done through online mode. The sole constraint being, the applicant’s phone number must be linked with his/her Aadhar number.
S Venkateswara Rao, Deputy Transport Commissioner, RTA, while speaking to Times of India informed that out of the 500 applications from Visakhapatnam district, 300 are from Vizag city. Reportedly, the applications include activities like a renewal of a driving license, change of address and correction of names among others. Rao also opined that the new facility of OTP will save the efforts of many individuals who tend to visit RTA offices and Mee Seva centres often to get their job done.
While the new system is expected to make tasks simpler, care must be taken while working online, given the rampant penetration of fake and malicious websites. Rao further informed that nearly 50 people from Visakhapatnam turned victims to online fraudsters in the past two months.
The official prices of minimum Rs 50 are charged per transaction through manual mode. However, with the OTP system, no such payment is required, thereby saving both time and money for the user. It may be noted that this facility is not for those applying for a learner’s license or a new permanent license.
