Exciting festivals lined up to attract tourists to Visakhapatnam

The coming months promise a lot in store for Visakhapatnam. With the government authorities set to organise multiple exciting festivals and events, the tourism fervour looks poised to peak in consecutive months.

Reportedly, the government would be spending close to Rs 16.5 crore to organise these festivals and establish Visakhapatnam as a tourist hub. Here is the exciting line-up of the festivals that we can’t wait for.

Visakha Utsav in December

One of the most awaited annual festivals in Visakhapatnam, Visakha Utsav is set to be back with a bang this December. Celebrated at the RK beach, this 3-day long festival not only entertains the crowds with many captivating events but also provides a perfect platform to showcase the proud culture, arts, crafts, music, and other distinctions of Visakhapatnam. This year, Visakha Utsav will be celebrated on 28, 29 and 30 December. The estimated budget for the same is Rs 3.5 crores.

Araku Balloon Festival in January

Araku Balloon Festival, which lit up the skies last year, will be returning in 2019. Set in the picturesque valleys of Araku, the festival will be held on 18, 19 and 20 January. Deemed as the prime event in establishing Araku as a premier ballooning destination, Araku Balloon Festival boasts of numerous specialities to hold the visitors captive and has been granted Rs 4 crores by the government.

Yachting Festival in March

Luxurious sail and motor yachts, which dotted our shores early this year, will be adorning the Bay of Bengal once again in March. Primarily aimed at attracting foreign tourists, the yachting festival will be held on 1, 2 and 3 March, with a grant of Rs 4 crores from the government.

Train Story

In the tourism department’s attempt to boost tourism in the state, Train Story is expected to arrange a special train from Visakhapatnam to Araku. While the government has released Rs 5 crores for the same, the dates are yet to be announced.
