The GVMC (Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation) has upped its ante in cleaning up the city. With the stage set for Swachh Survekshan 2019, the officials have been working hard to crown Visakhapatnam as the country’s cleanest city for 2019.
The survey teams will soon visit Visakhapatnam and evaluate several parameters before awarding a final score to the city. It may be recalled that Visakhapatnam’s position in the rankings slipped from 3rd place in 2017 to 7th place in Swachh Survekshan 2018. Last year, the cities of Indore, Bhopal and Chandigarh had emerged as the top three cleanest cities in India.
With no precise information on the dates of the survey team’s visit, GVMC Commissioner, Hari Narayanan, has urged the departments at different levels to stay vigilant and work efficiently to make sure that the desired results are achieved.
Meanwhile, GVMC is also reaching out to the denizens asking for their feedback. From organising awareness campaigns to conducting publicity drives, Visakhapatnam’s Chief Governing Body is leaving no stone unturned in its attempt.
Swachh Bharat was a mission flagged off by Prime Minister Narendra Modi with an aim of promoting cleanliness and hygiene in the country. Swacch Survekshan is a survey conducted every year which assesses the feedback of the citizens and concerned authorities to declare India’s cleanest city.
