In an unfortunate accident that occurred on the Kailasagiri in Visakhapatnam, two people have been reported to be killed. Battery operated car driver, Harry Abraham (47), and a tourist, K Venkata Rajyalakshmi (37), died after the vehicle rammed into an iron pole on the Kailasagiri slope on Saturday evening.
Rajyalakshmi, along with five others, boarded the battery operated car atop the hill to return to the entrance. However, while traversing down the slope, the car’s brakes allegedly failed before it lost control and hit an iron pole near the bus stand. While the tourist died on the spot, the driver succumbed to his injuries on Sunday morning. As per the police, Harry was a native of West Bengal and had started working as the battery car’s driver four months ago.
A few others have also cited the lack of speed breakers down the slope as a reason for the accident. “Preliminary investigation has revealed that the incident took place due to lack of speed breakers. We will write a letter to VUDA to construct a few speed breakers,” the police said.
“Though there was no need to obtain permission of the police and transport department for operating battery cars, we requested RTA officials to find out the exact reasons for the mishap and suggest measures to prevent such incidents,” they further added.
Kailasagiri is one of the major tourism landmarks in Visakhapatnam. The site is famous for its nature trails and the breathtaking hilltop views of the city if offers.
