The much-awaited convention centre, by the Lulu group, in Visakhapatnam is likely to take a few years before materialising. Vice-President Venkaiah Naidu, along with Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu, had laid the foundation stone for the project in February this year. However, the construction works for the same haven’t begun yet.
As per APIIC sources’ information to The Hindu, Lulu group has already conducted a survey and the work would begin in a month or so after the group gives a bank guarantee.
Mr. Yusuff Ali said, “We hope to complete this prestigious project by 2021. It will provide a world-class shopping experience for both tourists and residents of the state.” He informed that the project would be completed in three years and would generate around 5000 direct jobs and many more indirect jobs. The LuLu honcho also said that the facility would bring international conventions and tourists to Visakhapatnam. “The mall will have more than 200 national and international brands, hypermarket, 11 screens multiplex, family entertainment centre, food courts with 2,500 seats and more than 20 F&B outlets and fine dining concepts,” he added.
The city’s convention centre will be proceeding under the Private Public Partnership (PPP). Close to 13.83 acres of land have been allotted for the same by the government officials.
