With the latest orders by Principal Secretary of Municipal Administration and Urban Development, R Karaikal Valavan, a committee has been formed for the commencement of Visakhapatnam Light Metro Rail Project.
The Visakha Metro Rail Project Monitoring and Advisory Committee consists of 10 members including Municipal Commissioner, city planner, director of country and town planning, RTC regional manager and an official of the Central Government.
The committee would be focusing on the working pattern and the Rs 8300 crores project would be starting soon in a ‘private-public-partnership (PPP) mode’. The corridors would be set up at the cost of Rs 4,100 crore in five years. The elevated corridors and the stations would be established at a cost of Rs 4,200 crore.

Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, Nara Chandrababu Naidu, has already allocated a 250 acre land for the establishment of Metro Rail in Visakhapatnam.
Three routes have been identified in Vizag to operate the light metro rail here. While the first route is expected to be from Gajuwaka to Kommadi, the remaining two metro lines would be constructed along the routes of Gurudwara-Old Post Office and Thatichetlapalem-Chinna Waltair respectively.
