The gruesome murder of a minor girl led to angry protests in Chodavaram town of Visakhapatnam. On Thursday, many agitated students of local colleges took to the roads to stage protests demanding that the accused be punished.
Going into details, Padmavati (17), who was studying Intermediate 2nd year in a local college, went missing on Tuesday night. Fearing damage of their repute, the family members chose not to lodge a police complaint and searched for their girl to no avail. Though the incident reportedly took place on Tuesday, the semi-burnt body of the victim was discovered on Wednesday morning near Lakshmipuram.
With the locals reporting the discovery to the police, several futile efforts were put in to identify the deceased. Later, with the girl’s father, P Eswara Rao, lodged a missing complaint with the police before identifying the victim as his daughter.
Reportedly, Padmavati had a love affair with a boy of her locality. Early speculations reveal that the boy, after promising Padmavati of marriage and getting physically intimate with her, burnt her alive with gasoline.
Chodavaram CI Srinivasa Rao and a few others inspected the site and found an iron rod and a few blood stains on the grounds. With the police registering a case, the investigation is on to find the accused.
