In what might prove to be a major boost to Visakhapatnam, the government authorities are reportedly planning to build a multi-industrial park in the city. The park, which will be equipped with eco-friendly infrastructure and facilities, might come in as an alternative for the old greenfield Electronics Manufacturing Cluster-a project which was announced two years ago but hasn’t materialized thus far.
The EMC project had been proposed by the government and the union ministry of electronics and information technology, back in 2016. As the project hasn’t garnered much response from the private players until this point, the officials are reportedly exploring other alternatives to use the land procured for the same in Gurrampalem in Pendurthy, Visakhapatnam.
A senior official from the state government was quoted by TOI as saying, “We earmarked 99 acres of land for the setting up of the EMC at Gurrampalem. Twice we released bids inviting anchor companies to start their units at the EMC, but there was no response. So we are now thinking of alternative projects like multi-industrial park or hardware park.”
“By using the same land of 99 acres, we are now exploring various possibilities, and are thinking of a multi-industrial project. The only difference is that the EMC is an official project, while the multi-industrial is unofficial and has to be studied from various angles including at the CM’s level,” another senior bureaucrat told the leading news daily.
