New Railway Zone for Visakhapatnam still remains a distant dream

What had started as a promise way back during bifurcation in 2014 still remains a dream for Visakhapatnam as a new railway zone here remains spending.

No decision has so far been forthcoming from the Ministry of Railways regarding the formation of a new railway zone with headquarters in Visakhapatnam. The people have demanded, asked questions and raised slogans but all to no avail. It is rightly asked by people of Visakhapatnam because during the bifurcation of the state, political parties had made tall promises for the same. From 2014 we have come to the end of 2017 and the dream of a new railway zone here is far from reality. Ashwani Lohani who is the Railway Board Chairman was her and in a public interaction has hinted at no move move forward on the issue.

The current state of railway station and the amenities and cleanliness have impressed him and so also the work undertaken for restoring the landslide hit bridge in Araku valley. But as regards the issue of pending promises of a new railway zone in Visakhapatnam no conclusive statements have come forth, just the mention of it clearly being a political and administrative issue.

Under Consideration –

#1 A bullet train between Visakhapatnam and Vijayawada though the current focus is on India’s first bullet train between Mumbai and Ahmedabad.

#2 Operating direct overnight trains from Visakhapatnam to Vijayawada, Chennai and Bengaluru.

#3 Express train from Visakhapatnam to Varanasi.
