Visakhapatnam projects to be inaugurated by Andhra Pradesh CM Jagan Mohan Reddy on his one day visit

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister, YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, is on a short visit to Vizag on 17 December, 2021. Reportedly, on his visit, he will be officially inaugurating ten projects. Six are undertaken by the Visakhapatnam Metropolitan Region Development Authority (VMRDA), and the remaining four by the Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC).

Of the ten Visakhapatnam projects that have been lined up to be inaugurated by the CM, three of the projects have been much-awaited for the city. They are the new flyover at NAD Junction, worth Rs. 113 crore, the Multi-Level Car Parking Project (MLCP) at Jagadamba Junction, worth Rs. 11 crore, and the renovated VUDA Park, near Beach Road, worth Rs. 33 crore.

  • The new flyover at NAD Junction was taken up at an estimated cost of Rs 113 crore. It consists of three different layers which would facilitate separate passages for different categories of vehicles. While parts of the flyover are already operational, the water fountain and other facilities will be inaugurated by the Chief Minister.
  • The Multi-Level Car Parking (MLCP) facility, which is one of the Smart City Projects by the Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC), had also finished its trial run and was likely to be thrown open to the public by the year-end. This facility is being built near Jagadamba Junction, which is often a hotspot for vehicular congestion and parking snarls. The advanced car parking facility is being touted to provide respite from traffic woes in the area.
  • The historic VUDA Park, which is located on  Beach Road, received a major facelift. Reportedly, the facelift includes creating multipurpose play areas, galleries for the spectators, an amphitheatre, adventure cycling, renovation of lake boating, creating islands in the lake for seasonal migratory birds, developing walking tracks, creating a 70-car parking facility and yoga space, among others. The renovated VUDA Park has been delayed for a long time due to the COVID-19 pandemic and will now be inaugurated.

The other Visakhapatnam projects to be inaugurated by the CM include, the trial run for the Waste-to-Energy Processing Plant began on 2 October, 2021. The then GVMC Commissioner, G.Srijana IAS, had flagged off the closed compact vehicle in which solid waste was sent to the plant. As a part of the trial run, 500 tons of waste was processed for generating electricity.

It could be noted that the aforementioned projects awaited official inauguration the last time the Chief Minister was scheduled to visit the city, on 23 October, 2021. The Chief Minister’s trip to Vizag was cancelled for various reasons.

Reportedly, according to the Visakhapatnam District Collector, A Mallikarjuna IAS, the Chief Minister will physically inaugurate at least two projects and the rest will be done virtually.
