Visakhapatnam to have 120 metres Sky Tower – Kailasagiri German Team In Vizag

Chief executive officer HUSS Park Attractions, Mirko J Schulze,  builders of high-rise towers across the world having an experience of more than 30 years, arrived here on Monday along with Huss Park Attractions Vice-President, India operations Head – Vibhisha Jain, to inspect the site atop Kailasagiri Hills and interact with the local officials for building the 400 feet high iconic sky tower, said to be tallest in the country.

The port city of Visakhapatnam is all set to have a 120 metres high sky tower soon if the plans of AP state government works out.  This tower is supposed to be the highest in the country on the lines of those in Singapore and New Zealand. The team from Germany Huss Park Attractions visited Vizag to have a detailed discussion over the proposed sky tower on the top of Kailasagiri tourism spot, with the Visakhapatnam Urban Development Authority (VUDA).

We are yet to come to a decision on the proposed sky tower tourism project. It is proposed to be a 120-metres tall tower, which can accommodate nearly 70 visitors at a time. The estimated cost of the project is Rs 60 crore. The estimations may vary after talks with the German team”, the vice-chairman of VUDA, T Baburao Naidu said.  Huss, based in Bremen in Germany, is a market leader in design, development, manufacture and sale of amusement rides for theme parks- according to the VUDA officials.

“Visakhapatnam Urban Development Authority will give land for the sky tower at the proposed site of Kailasagiri. The private party will have to construct the tower,” T Baburao Naidu said. This sky tower will give a 360 degrees panoramic view of the city from 120 metres above the sea level and will also have the facility of free Wi-Fi.

Initially three locations were shortlisted to set up the sky tower by the department of AP tourism and VUDA— Kailasagiri, Madhurawada IT Sez and Yendada. However, it zeroed in on Kailasagiri as it is one of the busiest tourism spots in the city.

The engineers from VUDA stated that the tower is likely to be build with special materials including steel and concrete. A senior official from VUDA said,” As Vizag lies along the Bay of Bengal, it is prone to frequent cyclones and depressions. The tower will, therefore, be built with a capacity to withstand a wind speed of nearly 250 to 300 kmph”.

The tower will be fully air-conditioned with hotels, restaurants, amusement parks and children’s arena and the national flag will be hoisted atop the tower. However, sources at VUDA said the viability of the project hinges on financial and technical conditions. A source said, “If Huss can convince us of the two factors, the project will be considered. Money is not a matter”.
