Visakhapatnam residents are all set to have the first sighting of the Super Moon before residents of other parts of Andhra Pradesh.
On January 31st, lovers of celestial wonders have a front row treat to a Super Moon that coincides with a Lunar Eclipse. On Wednesday, at 5.45 p.m the total Lunar eclipse will commence. It will start even before the moon rise and in other parts of Andhra Pradesh such as Tirupati, it will commence after 6.05 p.m. The Moon will be at its perigee i.e the closest point in its orbit to Earth for which it would be a Super Moon appearing much bigger and radiant. It also happens to be the second full moon of the Month.
In Visakhapatnam, the moon will rise early and star gazers should be ready to watch the full splendor of the celestial event. Compared to other full moons, this Super Moon is reported to be 30% larger and 14% brighter. Wow!!
Also interesting for residents of Visakhapatnam is the fact that the Super Moon will look red due to scattering of light and lives up to the fabled ‘Blood Moon’ concept from Western movies. Watch out for it and capture it in pictures for it will be a sight to see for sure.
