M. Hari Narayanan, the municipal commissioner of Visakhapatnam district recently said that water levels in the reservoirs are good enough to cater to the city during summers. He said the usual water supply of 65 MGD-16 MGD for bulk users and 49 for domestic use- will continue to happen in the city.
While talking about the level of water in the reservoirs, he said that the level in Raiwada, Tatipudi and Mehgadrigedda reservoirs and the Godavari are good and will easily last from July to December. Also, necessary arrangements are being done for pumping water from Yeleru. Though the Mudasarlova and Gambhiram reservoirs are drying up, there is no need to worry as it accounts for only one percent of the total supply to the city, said Mr. Narayanan.
As reported, there was some problem in Madhurawada area in Visakhapatnam district last week because of the drying up of Gosthani. However, after a review by the Chief Secretary, charging from Tatipudi was done.
As reported, a ₹.3 crore summer action plan will soon be implemented to cover areas with low pressure in supply. It will include approximately 113 tanker trips by pressing into service 22 more additional tankers. Also, the officials are trying to reduce the time delivery time under the ‘Dial-a-tanker’ scheme to provide relief to apartment-residents dependent upon groundwater, he said.
The municipal commissioner has requested the citizens to pay their taxes on time so that they can raise funds for various works including underground drainage for uncovered areas and roads.
