Winter seems to be assuming its might in Visakhapatnam as the city registered its lowest temperature of the season so far. The temperature, on Tuesday, fell below those recorded on the previous three days and was recorded at 15.4 degrees Celsius.
While the areas closer to the coast were reported to be relatively warmer, it was the inland areas where the severity of the low temperature was felt the most.
The drop in temperatures is being caused due to the cold current flowing in from the Northern regions. “Thankfully, we are not directly exposed to these dry cold winds as the Himalayas act like a shield. These winds pass through Pakistan and partially into India through Rajasthan. These westerly winds are deflected and become north westerly winds and reach our coast,” P.V. Rama Rao, a former Director of the IMD, was quoted as saying by The Hindu.
Also, the absence of cyclones apart from ‘Titli‘ and ‘Gaja’ has also caused a drop in temperatures. While the temperature in Visakhapatnam was recorded as 17.4 degrees Celsius on Sunday, Monday witnessed the temperature drop further to 16.4 degrees Celsius. With the onset of winter, the agency areas in the district too have been reporting falling temperatures.
So snuggle up and get set for a few chills in Visakhapatnam for the winter is certainly here!
