A woman from Anakapalle, in Visakhapatnam district, was arrested on Wednesday for allegedly sending bomb hoax messages to Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu and other officials. Reportedly, 40-year-old Sriranjani sent messages to the CM, a minister, and some police officers that a bomb was planted in a bank and EVM strong rooms.
Sriranjani is a community activist with Velugu and implements government welfare schemes in several mandals. Notably, after her arrest, Sriranjani alleged that the manager of the Grameena Vikas Bank, Mr. Kiran Kumar had withheld the scheme funds against her pending loans. Matters escalated quickly when she warned him of creating a scene if the money wasn’t released.
Eventually, Sriranjani proceeded to buy a new sim card to send hoax messages to the Chief Minister, a few other ministers, and some police officers that bombs have been planted in the mentioned places. In the wake of the Sri Lanka blasts, the police quickly sprung into action to trace the identity to Sriranjani.
As reported by Deccan Chronicle, Anakapalle DSP S.V.V. Prasad Rao said that they have filed a case against her under the 67(C), 67(D) and 67(F) of the Information Technology Act along with IPC sections 380, 420 and 467. The police officer in Visakhapatnam said that she had created a bomb scare by sending messages to the Chief Minister and few other ministers including YSRCP President Y.S.Jaganmohan Reddy and police officers.
