Yet another unfortunate road accident came to light on Thursday in Vizag. Taking place near Thatichetlapalem in the city, the latest accident saw a lorry collide with a motorcycle, killing the rider of the two-wheeler on the spot.
As per the details revealed by the police, Padaala Bhaskar Rao, aged 69-years and belonging to Prahaladapuram in Vizag, visited the city on his two-wheeler on Thursday morning. Later in the afternoon, Rao, who was on his way back home, was hit by a lorry from the rear side on the highway.
The collision caused Rao to tumble down the road, injuring his head severely. While the rider did carry a helmet, he did not wear it at the time of the accident, making the injury all the more severe. Unfortunately, Rao succumbed to the head injury and died on the spot.
The accident also caused a traffic-jam and vehicles came to a stand-still on the National Highway. Traffic authorities and police rushed to the spot immediately and registered a case. The lorry, which caused the accident, has been seized and taken to the police station.
Despite efforts from authorities of the traffic department, road safety continues to be far from what is intended in Vizag. The last few months have seen too many accidents mess up the roads in the city and district, claiming numerous lives.
