Vizag’s newly opened all abilities park and its many specialities

With day by day developments taking place along the Vizag beach proving to be a matter of pride and joy for citizens, the addition of the All abilities park is a feather in the cap, much appreciated by citizens, tourists and the specially abled.

A colourful panoply of swings and ramps greet the eye as one passes by the RK Beach stretch. Luring kids across abilities to come and experience playing in a safe yet engaging environment is the All Abilities Park. Constructed by the Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC), this place lives to its name, as it provides a complete recreation to the differently abled too.

Constructed with a budget of Rs 3.5 Crore, in an area of 2156 sq mt opposite to YMCA, the park opens its doors to everyone. However, it stands in a special place for the ones who are hearing impaired, blind and handicapped. With the entire play equipment specially imported from Singapore, most of it is made from rubber, that not only makes it safe but also solves the problem of rusting and damage. The tactile flooring in the park is designed to help the visually impaired navigate around with ease. The rubber flooring in the play zones ensures safety for children while playing. Also, the park is constructed in a manner which would help one in a wheelchair to cover every corner of the place with ease. The bridge present in the park enables children to get across with ease while also giving a picturesque view of the amazing view of the Vizag coastline.

To provide knowledge about plants, tire planting, a technique of growing plants in tires, has been incorporated at the park. The play zones are divided keeping in mind the different age groups and their play requirements. A large blackboard located to a side provides an opportunity for children to draw, express themselves and generally have a fun time.

The park is open from 10 AM to 10:30 PM. With no entry fee, the place witnesses a lot of people come and go, especially during weekends and on public holidays. While one can visit the park at any time, the best hours for Vizag are always the evening, when the beachside has a soft breeze blowing and the city lights add to its glory.
