Vizag has been passing through a pretty breezy day. Since morning, the residents have been witnessing cool winds and these might just be the indications of what cyclone Phethai might bring in for Andhra Pradesh.
Andhra Pradesh could be in for heavy rainfall in the coming few days as yet another storm brews over the Bay of Bengal. The storm is currently in a state of deep depression and lay centred 1090 km South East of Machlipatnam an update from the Cyclone Warning Centre, Visakhapatnam revealed.
Informedly, the deep depression is likely to intensify into a cyclone in the coming 24 hours. It may move North North Westwards and cross Andhra Pradesh coast between Ongole and Kakinada on the afternoon of 17 December. An official further informed that Vizag too, might witness rainfall in the coming few days if the cyclone hits the coast between the specified areas.
” The deep depression over southeast Bay of Bengal moved further north-northwestwards with speed of 12 kmph during past 6 hours and lay centered at 0830 hrs IST of today, the 14th December 2018 over southeast Bay of Bengal near Latitude 8.5°N and Longitude 87.4°E, about 670 km east of Trincomalee (Sri Lanka), 930 km east-southeast of Chennai (Tamilnadu) and 1090 km southeast of Machlipatnam (Andhra Pradesh). It is very likely to intensify further into a Cyclonic storm during next 24 hours and into a Severe Cyclonic Storm in subsequent 36 hours. It is very likely to move northnorthwestwards and cross Andhra Pradesh coast between Ongole and Kakinada during 17th December afternoon,” read the bulletin by the Indian Meterological Department.
If the cyclone does hit the coast in the coming few days, it would be the third one following Titli and Gaja to hit South India this season.
