Vizag Bird Festival 2022 to be hosted by Indira Gandhi Zoological Park in January

Indira Gandhi Zoological Park (IGZP), in collaboration with the Indian Institutes of Science Education and Research (IISER) Tirupati, will be organising a Vizag Bird Festival on 22 and 23 January, 2022. Director General (Project Tiger), and Member-Secretary; Central Zoo Authority (CZA), Dr S.P.Yadav IFS, released the poster and teaser of the Bird Festival on 28 December, 2021. The poster was released in the presence of the Conservator of Forests, P. Ram Mohan Rao IFS, Vizag Zoo Curator, Dr Nandani Salaria IFS, and other zoo officials.

Dr Salaria said that Vizag Bird Festival aims to create more awareness among the public on the avian diversity of Andhra Pradesh. She added that this event will spread awareness in the public about birds, and broaden the research groups across the country. In this festival visitors can learn more information and interesting unknown facts about the birds around us, said Dr. Nandani Salaria, IFS, Curator, IGZP.

There are various events taking place during the Bird Festival at the Indira Gandhi Zoological Park, Visakhapatnam. These are the Guided Bird Walk, Train the Trainers, Nature Journaling, Bird Call Recording, Bio Blitz, and Beyond Bird Watching. The registrations for these events will commence from the first week of January 2022.

Through these events, visitors at the Vizag zoo can learn more information and interesting facts about birds. Bird watching brings people closer to nature and improves both cardiovascular, as well as mental, health.

Visakhapatnam has a large number of bird watchers and nature enthusiasts. Every year, during the winter season, many bird watchers across Andhra Pradesh visit Visakhapatnam District for bird watching

and exploring the biodiversity of the North Eastern Ghats region. The wetlands around Visakhapatnam, and the ghats, are also known to host rich avian diversity.
