One of Vizag’s prime junctions endured a few tense moments as a major accident was averted after an APSRTC bus rammed into a traffic-signal pole after its brakes failed. The mishap, which occurred near RTC Complex in the city, fortunately, did not cause any casualties as the passengers in the bus were reported to be safe.
As per the details provided by the individuals present at the site, the bus numbered AP 28 Z 3178, which was travelling towards Tagarapuvalasa, experienced a malfunction in its brakes, thereby losing control on the road around 2:30 pm on Monday. However, with the driver choosing to bring the vehicle to a halt by ramming it into a nearby traffic signal pole, the passengers and the commuters nearby were safeguarded from a major accident.
A similar incident was reported a few weeks ago when brakes had failed in a bus near Purna market in Vizag. While the driver had tried hard to bring the bus under control, the vehicle couldn’t be stopped until he chose to hit a nearby road divider, thereby preventing a major accident in the area. However, in the process, the bus had hit an autorickshaw and damaged its rear parts. Also, two individuals in the autorickshaw were minorly injured and had to be taken to KGH for treatment.
With another such incident being reported within a span of few days, the travellers have expressed their fear for travelling in buses and urged that proper checking systems are put in place to ensure the safety of the passengers.
