During the investigation of a 23-year old B. Tech student of Hyderabad, who allegedly died due to drug overdose, the Telangana Police have found a connection in Vizag. Nagesh (35) from Dumbriguda Mandal in Alluri Seetharama Raju District was found to be the supplier of the hashish oil to a dealer in Hyderabad and was arrested on Tuesday. In connection to the same case, Lakshmipati, the Hyderabad dealer, spilt the beans regarding this connection to the police.
According to sources, it was found that Nagesh was one of the suppliers of ganja and hashish oil from the former Visakhapatnam Agency, who met Lakshmipati in Araku a few years ago. The two started the trade of hashish oil which was reportedly procured from the Darakonda region. Lakshmipati on the receiving end sold it in Hyderabad. Both of them were taken into custody on Tuesday.
Visakhapatnam, which was initially called the hub of ganja, saw a decline in consumption due to Operation Parivartana launched by the AP Police who aimed to end its cultivation in the agency areas. According to the police, 50 per cent of the crop has been burnt. Nevertheless, there are a few people who are still transporting the end product from interior areas. As new districts were carved out of the former Visakhapatnam District, the majority of the agency areas have now become a part of the Alluri Seetharama Raju District. The AP Police will now have a more focused approach to dealing with smuggling and drug cases in and around Vizag.
The police have recently arrested two men carrying 2,280 kg of ganja on Tuesday. The men were found smuggling 57 bags of ganja in a lorry. The highways have been put on high alert after the incident. Similarly, another person was found with 15 kg of ganja within the Kancharapalem Police Station Limits. While conducting regular checks, the accused was caught with the illegal substance near Thatichetlapalem and was taken into custody.
