Vizag COVID-19 cases update: 206 new cases recorded, one more person passes away

Vizag reported 206 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 between Thursday and Friday, the district report released today revealed. While 2144 cases in the district are marked active, 51,298 people have been discharged in total so far. The death toll rose to 454 with one more patient succumbing to the infection. The COVID-19 cases report of Vizag released today also indicates 4 very active clusters, 64 active clusters, 248 dormant clusters, and 627 de-notified clusters.

Meanwhile, Andhra Pradesh reported 3967 fresh cases of COVID-19 as the overall count in the state increased to 7,75,470. In the past 24 hours, West Godavari recorded 627 new cases, while East Godavari witnessed 608 more individuals testing positive. As of Friday, Andhra Pradesh accounted for 38,979 active cases, 7,30,109 recoveries (including the 5010 recoveries between Thursday and Friday), and 6382 deaths due to COVID-19. So far, the state has conducted 69,20,377 tests.

India, on the other hand, reported 63,371 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 and 70,338 single day recoveries. The total recovered cases stand at 64,53,779. The gap between Recovered cases and Active cases has crossed 56 lakh (56,49,251). The recovered cases are 8 times more than the active case now. Presently the active cases comprise merely 10.92% of the total positive cases of the country standing at 8,04,528. Higher number of recoveries has aided the national Recovery Rate to further improve to 87.56%, the Ministry of Health said on Friday. “India continues to report one of the lowest deaths per million population which stands at 81 today. Less than 1100 deaths have been reported continuously since 2nd October,” it further added.

With Kerala, Karnataka, Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh and West Bengal witnessing a surge in the number of new COVID-19 cases in the recent days, the Centre has deputed high level Central teams to these states. The teams will support the state efforts towards strengthening containment, surveillance, testing, infection prevention and control measures, and efficient clinical management of the positive cases. The Central teams shall also guide in effectively managing the challenges related to timely diagnosis and follow up, a press release stated.
